The University of the Fraser Valley Alumni Association and the University of the Fraser Valley celebrate outstanding individuals whose contributions, leadership, and service reflect the core values of our community. Through a diverse range of formal honours, we recognize exceptional achievements across every stage of the UFV journey, from current student leaders and dedicated alumni to visionary changemakers in the broader community.
These forms of recognition honour a commitment to education, career excellence, and impactful service that inspires our entire network. Each recognition has its own distinct purpose, eligibility criteria, and selection process, outlined below.

Honorary Doctorate
Honorary doctorates are conferred by the University of the Fraser Valley to recognize individuals who demonstrate distinguished leadership, exceptional achievement, and service consistent with UFV’s mission, values, and goals.
Recipients exemplify the highest professional and ethical standards and serve as an inspiration to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Those recognized may include scholars, professionals, creative practitioners, athletes, or individuals known for exemplary public service at the regional, national, or global level.

Betty Urquhart Community Service Award
The Betty Urquhart Community Service Award is presented annually by the University of the Fraser Valley to recognize an individual, volunteer group, or non-profit organization that has made an extraordinary contribution to the Fraser Valley. As a core element of UFV’s commitment to changing lives and building community, this award celebrates the local changemakers who go above and beyond to enrich the region.
Recipients exemplify outstanding civic leadership and dedication, serving as an inspiration to our campus and the broader community. Those recognized are regional leaders, grassroots volunteers, and dedicated organizations whose selfless efforts help shape a stronger, more vibrant Fraser Valley.

UFV Alumni Service Excellence Medal
The UFV Alumni Service Excellence Medal recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding and sustained service or made significant contributions to the UFV Alumni Association. Recipients are honoured for the meaningful and lasting impact of their dedication to the alumni community.
Up to two medals may be awarded per calendar year. Recipients are approved by the UFV Alumni Association Board of Directors in accordance with established criteria.
This award is not necessarily presented every year and is reserved for individuals whose service reflects an exceptional level of commitment and impact.
