Five years of Alumni Open generates more than $160,000 for UFV students
CHILLIWACK – A good time was had by all and record amounts of revenue was generated at the fifth-annual UFV Alumni Open golf tournament, held at the Chilliwack Golf Club on Sept. 13.
UFV Alumni Association Chair Emeritus Navtej Bains says the fifth annual event created a strong connection between UFV students, alumni, and the greater Fraser Valley community.
“Since 2015, we have collectively fundraised close to $160,000 through the UFV Alumni Open to support bursaries and leadership awards. Each and every golfer, volunteer, and sponsor is making a valuable impact in the academic lives of students. Your support is greatly appreciated.”
UFV Alumni Relations manager Whitney Fordham adds proceeds of over $60,000 from this year’s tournament will fund additional bursary awards for students, each year in perpetuity.
“Since the proceeds from this tournament are being donated to the Alumni Changing Lives Bursary Endowment, which gives out awards each year, this truly is a gift that keeps on giving.”
“It’s been very rewarding to watch the UFV Alumni Open grow a little bit each year. Five years ago, we started with 76 golfers and 15 sponsors. Since then we’ve welcomed an additional 32 golfers into the fold and doubled the number of sponsors.”
