UFV’s Alumni Engagement and UFV’s CECE will be hosting STEP Café with an in-person panel for domestic and international students, including those eligible for a post-graduate work permit, on transitioning from university to the workplace. Join us to hear from alumni as they discuss how to navigate the transition, what resources and supports they used, and the advice they would give to upcoming and recent graduates.

GurneeshGurneesh Purba (BKin ’23)

Gurneesh is a proud graduate of the Bachelor of Kinesiology program in 2023. Throughout his academic journey at UFV, he actively engaged with several student organizations, notably UFV CERA and UFV KINSA. These involvements were crucial in facilitating valuable volunteer opportunities for students within and beyond the academic realm.

Currently, he is honored to serve as a rehab assistant at Menno Place in Abbotsford. He collaborates closely with a diverse team of healthcare professionals from various disciplines in this role to deliver the highest standard of care to the elderly residents they serve, always grounded in empathy and compassion.

Rohan Syal, Marketing Coordinator at UFV SUS, is a marketing professional dedicated to helping students succeed. As a transfer student from UFV India to UFV Canada, he majored in Business Administration with a marketing focus. His skill set encompasses email marketing, content creation, and social media management, along with a track record in community engagement and project management. With a long-term goal of crafting effective marketing strategies for SMEs, his academic journey culminated in a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Based in Abbotsford, BC, he draws from his experiences at UFV and in Canada to empower international students to achieve their dreams. His entrepreneurial pursuits, which include supporting small businesses in marketing strategies, align with his dedication to the international community.

As Manager & Advisor, RBC OnCampus at University of Fraser Valley, I lead a team of Advisors who are dedicating in providing Financial Literacy & Advice to all the students who are part of UFV Community. I started with RBC in Dec 2018 and held various positions such as Banking Advisor, Financial Advisor, Assistant Branch Manager and currently as Manager- RBC OnCampus. I am UFV Alumni & Business graduate, who came to Canada as an International student from UFV’s campus in Chandigarh, India. I got my Canadian Citizenship this year but have been calling Canada my new home since 2013.

Mrunalini is new to RBC on campus at UFV, having just recently transferred from University of Calgary RBC on campus. She has been with RBC for almost 7 years now and almost 3 years as a Digital Banking Advisor on campus. She originally moved to Canada with her family for over a decade ago and can still remember the feeling of moving to a new country and starting a whole new life from scratch– the struggle, the hardships, be it finding a new place to call home, find a job, making new friend circle, finding the necessity items, setting everything up. The transition from being a full time student to becoming an independent individual working full time in your own work field is a journey itself. And now she hopes relate to you all and share her own experience and view on it. She is very excited to engage with you all.
