UFV Alumni Association celebrates progress, ushers in new leadership at 2025 AGM

Fraser Valley, BC — The University of the Fraser Valley Alumni Association (UFVAA) came together on May 26 for the 2025 Annual General Meeting to celebrate the organization’s accomplishments, introduce incoming leadership, and honour key contributors to the UFV community. Alumni, university leaders, and special guests reflected on a special anniversary year for the university marked by innovation, connection, and growth.

“It has been a privilege to serve the vibrant and diverse communities of UFV,” said outgoing UFVAA Board Chair Tony Dhaliwal (BA ’12), who leaves a legacy of impactful initiatives. Highlights of his tenure include co-chairing the committee that welcomed UFV’s new Chancellor, Dr. Jo-ann Archibald, and supporting the appointment of Kim McLandress as an alumni representative on the UFV Board of Governors. Dhaliwal also reflected on major milestones including the inaugural UFV 50 Alumni & Friends Weekend and the touching Remarkable 50 campaign, which celebrated 50 outstanding alumni and their connections to UFV.

Following Dhaliwal’s address, the UFVAA officially announced its new slate of leaders. Bradley Menard (BGS ’14, BAAE ’21) has assumed the role of Chair, with Tricia Taylor (AA ’09, BA ’10) stepping in as Vice-Chair, and Alex Parkinson (BA ’18) serving as Associate Vice-Chair. Three new directors also joined the board: Tarn Chattu-Reehal (Cert ’22), Graham Petek (BA ’21), and Tristan Taylor (Dip ’23).

“Stepping into this role feels like coming home to my UFV family – a family that is deeply loyal and passionate about giving back,” stated Menard. “As we continue to grow and engage our alumni community, I’m eager to build on the strong foundation Tony has laid and explore new opportunities that strengthen our shared legacy.”

Also recognized by the UFVAA was the university’s outgoing President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Joanne MacLean, who was awarded a prestigious Honorary Life Membership to the association. “Dr. MacLean’s leadership has propelled UFV to new heights of academic excellence and community visibility,” said Menard. “Her work has left an undeniable legacy for both the university and our alumni.”

The meeting highlighted the progress made on the UFVAA’s Strategic Plan, guided by five key pillars: Engagement, Advocacy, Philanthropy, Governance, and Alumni Stewardship. Under Dhaliwal’s leadership, the Association increased alumni outreach, enhanced programming, and reinforced partnerships with university stakeholders. Notable advancements included expanding the Alumni Engagement office to four permanent staff members—each a UFV alum—and embracing a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility through the guidance of Vice-Chair Bradley Menard in his role as IDEA Officer.

Following the AGM, attendees enjoyed a warm and lively networking reception, fostering connections over refreshments and the shared pride of belonging to the UFV community.
