Bradley Menard: Leading with purpose, giving with heart

Bradley Menard 2025For Bradley Menard (MEd, MAdEd, BAAE ’21, BGS ‘14), giving back to the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is not about recognition. It is about creating access to education and community support in ways that are sustainable and authentic.

Bradley is a long-time advocate for education and has spent nearly 20 years working in the post-secondary sector. He holds six credentials from UFV and five more from other institutions. He also volunteers extensively within UFV and in the broader education community.

“I believe in the power of education to transform lives,” he says. “And I’m committed to expanding access to it for others.”

Inspired leadership, grounded in community

Bradley’s commitment to service began early, shaped by the example set by his parents.

“They involved me in volunteering and donating in our community from a very young age,” he says. “It taught me that contributing to causes that matter is incredibly rewarding.”

Those early lessons continue to influence his work today, especially in his newly appointed role as Chair of the UFV Alumni Association.

“Leadership isn’t about a title or a rigid hierarchy,” he explains. “It’s about making an impact and working collaboratively.”

At the heart of his leadership is a commitment to inclusion and shared responsibility. “I strive to create a space where everyone is valued and can contribute their best,” he says. “And recognizing that everyone’s best is different.”

Giving sustainably and authentically

Bradley has given to UFV in a variety of ways, including during Giving Day in April, where he served as a spokesperson.

He emphasizes that giving comes in many forms. “Every contribution, big or small, helps build a stronger and more accessible community,” he says. “That might be through advocacy, offering support or simply being present.”

He encourages others to think realistically about what they can offer. “Giving is so personal,” he says. “And precisely because it’s so personal, it’s important to be transparent with yourself and others about what you can do.” He explains that this transparency fosters lasting impact, as being honest about your limits allows for sustainable contributions that can evolve.  “Maybe it’s not the right moment now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be in a few months or a year.”

A hopeful outlook

When asked about the legacy he hopes to leave, Bradley reflects on the long-term impact of giving.

“I hope it opens opportunities for people who otherwise wouldn’t have had them” he says.

He believes that whether through financial support or volunteering, giving helps create a stronger future for everyone. “I hope we’re creating a better world than the one we started with,” he says.

For those just beginning their journey in giving or wondering how to get involved, his advice is grounded and encouraging: “Follow the inspiration. See what feels right,” he says. “Give in a way and to a cause that you believe in.”

As UFV welcomes new generations of learners, it is the support of dedicated donors and alumni like Bradley Menard that helps create lasting opportunities for students. His leadership, generosity, and commitment to accessible education highlights the vital role that alumni and donors play in strengthening the UFV community and shaping its future.
